The 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) has stringent filing deadline requirements. Cancer and illness claims must be filed within two years of certification by the WTC Health Program and families must file wrongful death claims within two years of the victim’s death. Because many victims and widows were unaware of these deadlines, they either missed their time to file a claim or they never even filed a claim. The VCF has now opened a one-time window for those victims and their families to bring claims:
If you were found ineligible by the VCF because you filed your claim after the filing deadline, you now have the right to pursue your claim.
If you have an appeal pending because you were denied compensation based upon timeliness, that appeal is no longer necessary, and will be cancelled. Your claim will be reconsidered and likely be found eligible if you meet other requirements such as being able to prove that you were in the exposure zone.
If you did not file a VCF claim because your claim would have been untimely, you may now bring that claim.
The window for these previously time-barred claims is July 29, 2021. It applies to sick 9/11 victims, as well as families who have lost loved ones. It is important to spread the word about this one-time window in order to help as many 9/11 victims as possible receive the compensation they deserve.

Registering Even If You’re Healthy
If you were in the 9/11 exposure zone on September 11, 2001 or in the 8 months after, but are currently healthy, you should still register for the World Trade Center Health Program and the Victim Compensation Fund . Registering preserves your right to file a claim if you get sick in the future. The lawyers and staff at Barasch & McGarry will guide you through the process and will make sense of the documentation needed to prove your eligibility.
I recently received my VCF payment check. I know a lot of people in your office made this possible with their hard work. Please let them know how much they have helped my family. My thoughts will always be with the hard working people of your firm who made this possible.
