September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Issues May 2022 Report
Every month, the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) publishes a report providing useful statistics about the program. According to the May 2022 report, 750 claims were submitted that month, adding to the total of 74,921 claims submitted since the VCF was established.
The number of claims submitted in April 2022 was similar to previous months this year.
The report also includes a Claim Review Timeline. The timeline notes that:
- Claims submitted prior to April 2021 are currently receiving award decisions.
- Claims submitted prior to May 2021 are currently in substantive review.
- Claims submitted in June – November 2021 will come under substantive review soon.
- Claims submitted prior to December 2021 are in preliminary review
A total of 368 compensation determinations were made in April 2022 (295 initial compensation determinations and 73 amended compensation determinations).
As of May 31, 2022, there have been 28,993 compensation determinations for responders and 15,349 for survivors, although compensation determinations for survivors have steadily increased as a percentage of total determinations.
