Breast Cancer Does Not Just Affect Women
As you may know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is a horrific disease that affects 1 in 8 women, and 1 in 100,000 men. I have been shocked by the fact that of the 200,000+ men in the 9/11 Community, our law firm alone now represents 30 men with breast cancer (not to mention 500 women)!
As with any cancer, early detection is the key to recovery. The biggest problem with male breast cancer is that men are often not aware that they, too, are at risk. Yesterday, The New York Post and CBS News covered the heartbreaking realities of men in the 9/11 Community who have been diagnosed with aggressive forms of breast cancer. There is a presumption by the WTC Health Program that this cancer was caused by exposure to 9/11 toxins.
The links to the news stories are below. Please encourage everyone in the 9/11 Community to join the Health Program and get checked out.
Respectfully yours,
Mike Barasch
