Bipartisan Congressional Delegation Urges World Trade Center Health Program to Expedite Decision on Covering Uterine Cancer
A bipartisan group in the U.S. House of Representatives has publicly called on the World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program to expedite its decision on whether to include uterine cancer as a covered condition eligible for free health care.
The group of representatives from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut – led by Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill – sent a letter to WTC Health Program Administrator Dr. John Howard, M.D., noting that recent medical research demonstrates that Ground Zero exposure increases the likelihood of developing uterine cancer.
Currently, the health program covers 68 types of cancer, as well as many respiratory illnesses. However, uterine cancer has never been a covered 9/11-related cancer.
Barasch & McGarry has advocated for both the WTC Health Program and 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund to include uterine cancer, in addition to other conditions common in the 9/11 community such as autoimmune diseases and heart ailments. This is why it is so important that everyone in the 9/11 community register with the WTC Health Program. By doing so, it gives the WTC Health Program the data it needs to continue linking additional 9/11-related illnesses and cancer.
If you were there in Lower Manhattan on or after 9/11, we urge you to register with the WTC Health Program and the VCF – even if you are currently healthy. By registering, you protect your right to access free health care and register a claim with the Victim Compensation Fund in the future.
