Types of Documents to Keep if You Registered for the VCF
If you have registered for participation in the Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) but have not yet submitted your eligibility and compensation packets, you can avoid a great deal of frustration in the future by being careful what paperwork you throw away now. Completed VCF applications require a great deal of supporting documentary evidence, some of which may already be in your possession. However, many of the required documents can be difficult, if not impossible, to replace should you inadvertently discard them.
The VCF Eligibility Claim Form is an extensive document. Your completed packet must include not only the claim form but also numerous types of supporting documentation. Following are examples of the types of evidence you may need to attach:
- Employment records of those claiming physical presence in the exposure zone by virtue of their employment
- Proof of residence for those claiming to have resided in the exposure zone
- School records for those claiming presence by virtue of their school attendance
- Tax returns or pay stubs to support economic losses due to missed work
- Receipts and invoices from medical providers to support economic losses due to medical expenses
- The names and contact information of your treating physicians
- The names and contact information of witnesses who can corroborate your physical presence in the exposure zone
The precise supporting documentation necessary to prove your eligibility and amount of compensation depends on your particular medical issues as well as on the nature and duration of your presence in the exposure zone. Whatever the case may be, faulty applications may be rejected or, even worse, denied. Working with our experienced Victim Compensation Fund attorney at Barasch & McGarry can help ensure that your application has the best chance of a prompt and favorable determination.
