Today Begins the 2 Month Countdown For a Critical Deadline with the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund
There are now only two months remaining until the deadline for families who lost a beloved relative to Ground Zero-related cancer or respiratory illness to register a claim with the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund (VCF).
We must now work tirelessly to share this crucial information with the entire 9/11 community.
The 9/11 community consists of 500,000 first responders, office workers, students and teachers, and residents who were in Lower Manhattan below Canal Street on 9/11 or any time in the following 8 months.
Families that have lost someone should register as soon as possible, before their time runs out.
Ordinarily, first responders and survivors with 9/11-related health conditions – which include 68 different types of cancer and many respiratory illnesses – must register with the VCF within two years of the World Trade Center Health Program certifying their condition.
Similarly, the families of 9/11 victims must register within two years of their loved one’s passing.
But after the VCF was permanently extended in 2019, Special Master Rupa Bhattacharyya established a two-year window for 9/11 community members and families to register older claims that would otherwise have been time-barred.
The deadline for these older claims has been extended to July 29, 2021.
Help us inform the 9/11 community about this upcoming deadline – speak with your friends and colleagues who were there: Lower Manhattan, at the Fresh Kills Landfill, the Pentagon or the Shanksville, PA, crash site on 9/11 or during any part of the following 8 months (please note: Pentagon and Shanksville responders must prove that they were exposed on 9/11 or anytime until November 19, 2001).
It’s not too late for you to register a claim.
Once this extension ends, the two-year deadline will return.
Don’t wait. Call 212-385-8000 or visit 911victims.com today.

Hi Kathy, We hope you’re in good health. If you were there, we urge you to get an annual skin exam since skin cancer is the most common cancer among the 9/11 community. Early detection can save your life. Please give us a call at 212-385-8000 or visit 911victims.org, and we’ll be happy to help you register. Take care.
