Barasch & McGarry Honors Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney for Women’s History

March 18, 2021 | Michael Barasch

As we honor Women’s History Month, Barasch & McGarry proudly celebrates our friend Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney for her tireless support of the 9/11 community.

Representing parts of Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn since 1993, Congresswoman Maloney’s constituents include thousands of 9/11 first responders, as well as survivors who were working, living, or attending school in Lower Manhattan in the months after the attacks.

During the battle on Capitol Hill to permanently reauthorize and extend the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund in 2019, Congresswoman Maloney helped lead New York State’s Congressional delegation, focusing attention on how 9/11 heroes and their families needed support.

To demonstrate her commitment to the 9/11 community, Congresswoman Maloney wore an FDNY firefighter’s coat – presented to her by Barasch & McGarry – in the weeks before the enactment of H.R.1327 – the “Never Forget the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act.”

The bill – passed by supermajorities in the House of Representatives and the Senate, then signed into law by President Trump – extended the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund to 2092 and fully fund the program, assuring that first responders, survivors, and their families are protected for their entire lives.

On behalf of the 20,000 9/11 first responders and survivors that we represent, we thank Congresswoman Maloney for her work on behalf of the entire 9/11 community which is still threatened by dramatically higher rates of cancer and respiratory disease nearly two decades later. If you were in Lower Manhattan after 9/11, visit 911victims.com or call 212-385-8000 today to register with the World Trade Center Health Program and the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund.
